20 year is a special number, especially for a company anniversary. And it also happened to Philips Color Kinetics. Founded in Boston on 1997, Color Kinetics (or known as CK) focus only for controllable and programmable LED for architectural lighting. Then on 2007, Philips do an acquisition to Color Kinetics, then it becomes Philips Color Kinetics (sometimes we call it PCK).
There always be the first time for everything. Including this artwork. This is for the first time I am doing 2 artwork in single time. This special order has come from one of top communication consultant company, Maverick Indonesia. These are the partner of this company. The leaders.
This paper cutting Cupo Portrait, Cupo-BHP, is created as the request by a daughter who wants to give a birthday present to her father. The color requested represents the color of the tiger, since her father shio is the tiger too. As usual, the hardest part is finding the photograph that can be created with stenciled photo and has enough resolution to modified.
Let’s call it Cupo-FKM. FKM is the initial name of this girl that her photograph made as an object of paper cutting and painting. This is the custom request from a customer that initiate to give a different gift as a birthday present. Also, request to give pink gradation and pink wooden frame. FKM is 4yrs old girl who lived in Paris.
Shape transition and make a layout for the pattern based on a motif from Middle East area or known as Timur Tengah in Bahasa Indonesia. There is no shape change, only the layout that changes on each layer.
The experiment of paper cutting to make a transition from the simple square shape and make color gradation for each layers using some color spectrum.
On this project, we are trying to maximize all layered that already cut. As you know, when we cut the paper, it will create 2 shapes. Sometimes we call it positive and negative shape. This project made on September 30, 2014.
In this Cupo-Basmalah, the concept combines the art of calligraphy with some layer of papercutting and combine with color gradation for each layer.
This artwork is called Cupo-BAP and made from a photograph of our beloved colleague that resigned from the current job. BAP is the initial name of our colleague, Bayu Ade Pramudia. The hardest part of this creation is found the good photograph without asking the photo from him because this artwork was made as a secret project.
This is my first artwork for Cupo. The idea is simple. Create layered ellipses with different color gradation for each ellipse. We made it on 15 September 2013.
