Previously, I had created paper cutting +painting with The President theme. The first is Cupo-Gus Dur, or the formal name is Abdurrahman Wahid, he was the 4th President of Republic of Indonesia. The second is Cupo-Obama, as we know that he was the 44th President of United States of America.
Now, I made creation again with President theme. This time is not the president of a country but from a company. He was the President Director of Philips Lighting Indonesia. His name is Chandrasekhar Vaidyanathan. This project happened because the request of Professional Lighting Channel team that want to present a memorable gift at the farewell party of Pak Chandra on March 24, 2017. He will move from Indonesia to China as Regional Business Leader for Greater China and India. He was the Country Leader of Philips Lighting Indonesia from October 2013 until March 2017.
As usual, it all start with white paper. Including this artwork. And as the idea is to give something remarkable and memorable to Pak Chandra, so the main thing that needed to do is to find something that represented Philips Lighting and Indonesia. For sure, this artwork must contain Philips shield logo. No further explanation about this identity and why it should use for this artwork.

The other idea is to make the representation of Jakarta. As the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta is a dynamic city and have special value for Philips Lighting Indonesia. Because in this city, Philips Lighting successfully installed around 90.000 pieces of digitally connected and smart street lighting system ( http://www.newsroom.lighting.philips.com/news/2016/20161115-philips-lighting-implements-one-of-the-worlds-largest-connected-street-lighting-systems-in-jakarta ). This achievement has known and recognized globally and happened during Pak Chandra leadership. That’s one of the reasons why this artwork should contain Jakarta icon.

After some research and discussion with Professional Lighting team, the idea to represent Indonesia is using Batik. Because batik is Indonesia. As a company leader in Indonesia, Pak Chandra mostly wearing batik in some occasions. Long sleeves batik shirt for the formal event and sometimes short sleeves batik shirt on the non-formal event and sometimes on workdays at the office. And Philips Indonesia actually has two official Batik shirt for all employee. One is a white shirt and the other is purple. Batik also represent the team and program that doing end-to-end business transformation during his leadership in Indonesia around in 2014-2015. This batik ornament will be applied as the background and also for the shirt that Pak Chandra wear. Blue color as the representation of white shirt batik and also represent of Philips brand color. Purple color as the representation of purple shirt batik and also represent of LED Lighting brand color.

Finally, this gift is finished. I am starting to cut the paper on Saturday afternoon (March 18) after arriving at home from doing surgery of my little daughter at Pondok Indah hospital on the Saturday morning. And do the painting on Sunday (March 19) evening. The finishing touch (glue and connected the layers) happened on Monday night after work. That’s why artwork signed on 20-03-2017. Then on Tuesday dropped to frame maker to finalize it. Pak Chandra looks happy when I explained the concept or idea of this gift on stage. Hopefully, he loves this gift and as the objective, this gift can remind him with the employee of Philips Lighting Indonesia at Jakarta. Good luck and wishing you success in your new role, Pak Chandra.
